Eagle Feather

A Special Reserve painting, for exhibition later this year.

This feather was found on the rocky shore of an island off the coast of Maine, where a pair of bald eagles had been feeding on a seal carcass. The feather does not belong to me, and this may be well and good, for I vaguely recall that it was once illegal to own the feathers of a bald eagle, unless one were a native American. Though my Petite Pas ancestors comprise too small part of my genetic makeup for me to claim legal ancestry, they would be proud of my reverence for such things as eagle feathers. Here the blue silk is a remembrance of the sky through which this feather once soared. The white gumballs on the cloth and mirror are a playfull suggestion of eggs or the moon over water.
