Urban Sprawl

A one brush experiment
in strokes of sumi ink,
toned with cadmium yellow watercolor
to create a brassy effect.
The result seems to me like an aerial view
of rooftops, sidewalks,
reflecting pools, and grassy lawns.

Music of the Spheres

To me
instrumental music

LGcard_14
This is another blank watercolor greeting card
from an ongoing series of abstracts.
Signed and dated,
the prose above are handwritten
on a separate page of vellum,
(to trash or treasure, whichever is your pleasure)
Envelope included.

Could've Been

These abstract brush strokes could have been
fish, or needles, or dried grass stems.
Could've been
that the movie runs backwards:
hurricanes build homes and lush landscapes -
earthquakes restore tall buildings and old cities -
floods repair roads, remove debris, stabilize hillsides -
and fired guns remove bullets and bring people back to life.

Get Well Soon

With nothing in mind,
this abstract watercolor card
was created
four months before the pandemic,
using gold marker.

Sure looks to me
like trouble
under a microscope.

Thinking of You,
the jealous people,
the ones that said
"I hate you."

Somewhere Above

Somewhere above
the chaotic abstractions
is a place of calm.

Those Lines Again

Those lines again,
ever since that drawing class
with Paul Vasquez
back in 1976,
they keep showing up.

Plaids Are Not My Thing

Plaids are not my thing,
but the linear play of brushstrokes were too tempting.

Good Morning Warmup #5,
