Tulip Kaleidoscope

"I wanted to give up on this one - it was difficult - the flower was so crude, so woody. So, I did give up, and just painted, taking care of the little things, enjoying stroking the paint, smoothing the surfaces, delineating edges, laying transparent color. And finally it began to glow and show the tidy contours that I found pleasing in the original flowers." - Nancy Boudreau

This is a 5" x 7" acrylic painting on gessoed and lovingly textured mat board. Sealed with a gloss clear coat and delivered in a cream-colored 8" x 10" mat, ready for framing. The text above is handwritten by the artist on the back of the painting. This is part of an ongoing series of small works, paintings with prose and poetry, that was started in June 2007.

Pink Tulip

"These tulips are carved out of paint - nothing delicate about them. I think it is because of my state of mind - point of view lately - life is something to be dealt with, grasped, the course of events directed by the work of my own hands as they wrest a better outcome from what would otherwise be a floundering future." - Nancy Boudreau

I include a link here to "Tulip Mania" from Wikipedia as it touches on a bit history that recently repeated itself with a vengence, leaving us all in the dire economic straits from which we are now working out way out of.

Maidenhair Ferns

Ferns, especially Maidenhaid Ferns, are absolutely delicate yet so enduring. How is it that such a tender thing has survived through eons of this world's rough handling? - Nancy Boudreau

The fragrence of a Stargazer lily is such a notable characteristic that I wonder why it's not mentioned in the naming of the flower. - Nancy Boudreau
