Lee Piano Studio's Steinway, an impressively beautiful musical instrument. Thanks Roxane for letting me take over the studio long enough to make this painting.

Pearls
•
These are the pearls that I wore for my wedding so many years ago. They're sitting in a box of Black Dinah Chocolates that a friend if mine brought me from his vacation home on Isle au Haut. This is a painting full of sweet memories.

Swan Feather
•
This feather was collected while paddling on Lake Lillinonah last week, up near Lover's Leap. The swans there have had an unproductive year. They were molting and passive and there were no young with them. This single white feather reminds me of loss.

Litchfield Hills
•
Looking off toward the Litchfield Hills, a lovely view that I continue to struggle with. Perhaps it would be better to take one element at a time: the cumulus clouds, the clover in the field, the shadows under the trees, studying them separately. The scene as a whole is more than I can handle properly at this time.

Tomatoes
•
These are the first tomatoes produced from my cottage garden this summer. Such a deep, juicy red, full of old-timey tomato flavor! I shouldn't have been surprised to find Webster's Unabridged Dictionary note that in the past, the word "tomato" has been used as slang for "prostitute."

Gift from the Far East
•
I'm thinking of packaging and wrapping papers that a friend of mine has received from his Japanese clients. The colors are light and frivolous while the written and spoken words seem serious and sometimes harsh.

Lowden Guitar
•
I love this guitar, what more can I say?
It took six hours to finish the painting and I'm starting the bidding at $1.
Ouch!

Glass Tile

5" x 6 3/4" acrylic painting on matte board

To me, this is the first step of abstraction.
Our minds naturally seek patterns, to make sense out of chaos.
Random color and brush strokes frustrate our minds' efforts to organize and thus "make sense" of what we see.
Applying random colors in a pattern help the viewer feel more comfortable, more familiar.
This painting is random color arranged in a simple, understandable pattern. There was no intent to paint a picture of glass tile.

Windy Hill
•
These are the fields of Hadlow Farm on a windy afternoon in July. Warm weather, sun and a dry wind made the hours spent painting quiet comfortable. On the other hand, painting with acrylics was challenging under those conditions, the paint drying as soon as it left the tube, giving little time to blend colors.

Watermelon on the 4th
This isn't the watermelon of my childhood - which had plenty of black seeds. When the adults were out of sight, we children would have contests to see how far we could spit the seeds. Childish fun in the summer. . .
