Blushing Tulip

"Is it yellow, is it orange, is it pink? Blushing and shy, shell shaped petals just beginning to open - a tease. Bold gestures of fleshy leaves, a hand to the face, chin resting in palm. There is so much life in flowers." - Nancy Boudreau, April 4th 2011

This is a 5" x 7" acrylic painting on gessoed and lovingly textured mat board. Sealed with a gloss clear coat and delivered in a cream-colored 8" x 10" mat, ready for framing. The text above is handwritten by the artist on the back of the painting. This is part of an ongoing series of small works, paintings with prose and poetry, that was started in June 2007.

Milkweed

In the meadows along the trails to Bennetts Pond in Ridgefield, Connecticut, milkweed pods rattle in the wind. Gusts tug at the silken parachutes, sending seeds adrift over the landscape.

Leaving Arizona 2

Cumulus clouds, like old souls, move majestically over the land as if called by God to their next destination, their shadows gently touching earthbound mortals.
This painting is a view from the plane as we lifted above the highlands north and east of Phoenix, returning to Connecticut.

Leaving Arizona 1

An aerial view of the desert and mountains to the northeast of Phoenix, as I fly away from this sad visit, leaving behind my mother and brothers, and the ashes of my father.

What Next?

And after all, this may be my favorite painting - the base under which everything else has been done, the easel itself as the life's work of art.

Downtown Phoenix Sunset 3

A ruling pen would have made short work of these lines
but
shaky strokes full of course corrections
and a strong desire to move forward
describe life's lines
directions of intent
dreams hijacked
solutions
and more hijacked dreams
finally building
the bars of a cage
a life story
leaving Freedom
as the un-described space in between

Downtown Phoenix Sunset 2

Shadows of palms against an orange wall,
whose color is intensified by the setting sun,
a tease of foliage edging the composition
giving three dimensionality to a feverish image.

Good Night Daffodils

All good things must pass, and with this painting we bid adieu to the daffodils of 2010. Catching the last light of day, their yellow hues are supernaturally saturated by the setting sun. - Nancy Boudreau

Red Lipped Narcissus

Here's one pristine petaled daffodil with a bold touch of blaze-orange on it's corona-edge. Reminds me of some pale femme fatale wearing a brazen red shade of lipstick. Drama queens in the garden. - Nancy Boudreau

Coy Daffodil

The daffodil's leaves rise out of the ground in a spiral twist, one tip tenderly touching the corona's lip, a coy gesture, as this sweet face nods in greeting to the rising sun. - Nancy Boudreau

Narcissus White Wing

Narcissus come in a variety of shades from white through yellow-orange. This particular flower with petals like white wings and pale blushing corona is one of my favorites. - Nancy Boudreau

Clouds Over Spur Cross

Clouds over Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area cast deep blue-violet shadows accentuating the contours of distant heights. The saguaro studded hills are what qualify this wilderness to be called a forest, the Tonto National Forest. Standing here on the trails of the Desert Foothills Land Trust in Cave Creek, it's easy to appreciate the beauty of this corner of the Sonoran Desert.
