Milkweed

In the meadows along the trails to Bennetts Pond in Ridgefield, Connecticut, milkweed pods rattle in the wind. Gusts tug at the silken parachutes, sending seeds adrift over the landscape.

November Sunset 1

In northwest Connecticut, November is the month of sunrises and sunsets. Leaves drop in the last week of October and by the first week of November the sky is suddenly exposed. Day length and the set of the clock aligns sunrise and sunset with commuting hours, when dazzling distractions cause traffic jams. In this painting, the center of New Fairfield, looking east, clouds are momentarily washed with luminous hues I cannot reproduce.

Forest Stream Reflections

Walking through the Pootatuck State Forest after a heavy rain in early October, this is a view of the stream along the Fire Trail. There are just enough green leaves still on the trees overhead to cast a chartreuse light on the water. The shadows reflect blue from the sky. These are damp woods, and moss flourishes on boulders artfully strewn across hills and valleys by the last passing glacier.

September Light

Light from the setting sun streaming through the woods, backlighting the trees and streaking across the fallen leaves of the forest floor, in New Fairfield, Connnecticut.
