June Roadside

"June Roadside"

Spindle leggéd mowers
cruise the woodland
denuding the understory
but steer clear of roadside hedgerows
where orange lilies
like warning flags
wave at passing vehicles.

- Nancy Boudreau

This is a painted 4" x 6" view of a roadside in New Milford, Connecticut, in June. Orange daylilies bloom on the sunny side and are reflected in a muddy puddle left by a recent passing thundershower. These wild orange daylilies are one of the few flowers not eaten by deer. To celebrate that fact, I suggest we start referring to them as "deer lilies".

Day Old Daylily

I suppose we can call this "Day Old Daylily" as it's a drawing of a spent daylily. Caught it before it's complete collapse, while it's form was still languid. - Nancy Boudreau

This drawing was created using Prismacolor pencil on paper, a long-time favorite of mine. All the drawings of this set of sixteen, are 4.5" x 4.5", are under cream-colored mats and framed in honey-colored maple, ready to hang. Each framed piece measures 16.5" x 16.5". The series is for sale as a set for $3200.
