The fields along Spring Lake Road in Sherman Connecticut are manicured, seductively undulating hills edged with tidy trees, Elysian fields, a place of immense peace. This road is a favorite destination for a Sunday afternoon stroll. A walk from one end and back, past the lake, the hills, the nesting bluebirds and orioles, fills the soul with sun and a relaxed openness. This is a place that lives in the hearts of artists, one of which found himself living here back in the 1940's, through the difficult last years of his life - Arshile Gorky. - Nancy Boudreau
