Study 2 for Contemplation

Spatial blue, a stream of flotsam, the talismans and charms we carry through life to remind us that we are loved, that we have significance and direction though surrounded by apparent void. This painting started as an uncommitted field of blue. Again, ambiguity was not enough, and as I sat there waiting for inspiration or insight, the horizontal shape of the board took over. Streaming from left to right, like writing, a timely progression marked by small gifts and possessions - a soapstone stamp from my niece brought back from China, a birthday gift of watercolor pencils from my sister-in-law. These things we give each other, collecting and trading, acquiring, possessing in an effort to give our lives substance, to mark the path of our passing and the the intersections of our paths.
- Nancy Boudreau

This is the second study in preparation for a much larger painting called "Contemplation". Ongoing studies experimenting in technique and ideas will be offered on EBaY, with thoughts, comments and anecdotes handwritten on the back of the studies. Proceeds from the sale of these studies will help pay the expenses incurred in creating the larger painting.
