Pendleton-Inspired Nature Blanket Composite 4

Photographs of orange aloe flowers, quartz-veined rock, and blushing sunset skies, are woven together under a transparent blanket of grey, punctuated by geometric designs. 

Created in Photoshop, using images from my own collection, this piece of art is inspired by Pendleton's Native American series of wool blankets.

Pendleton Nature Blanket 1

This is the first Photoshop composite combining my love of Native American Pendleton Blankets, a personal library full of natural imagery, and the desire to gain facility with these powerful and magical tools of artistic expression. 

In this series of "Pendleton Nature Blankets" natural textures from photographs substitute some of the solid colors. The organization of geometric forms symbolize the human need to make sense of wilderness, controlling it so that it becomes a comfort to wrap ourselves in.

Individual "Blankets" will be available as small prints on archival paper, which should look lovely as a grouped display. Contact me if you're interested in collecting them.

"The Art of Photoshop Compositing" by Julieanne Kost has been my favorite course of all the Lynda.com tutorials I've watched this year. So now finally, in the last few hours of 2014, I'm taking Photoshop out for a test drive, with a backseat full of cherished images.

Love ya Mom, and miss you mightily. It's been an unexpected pleasure spending New Years this way.


  

A Book for James

A tribute to my friend James Teeling, an author who has published his first novel, "The Star seers of Elidden", available through Amazon.

. . . and another scratchboard drawing, or is it a clever segue into the digital world? 

This piece of art differs from the last few drawings in that it was created using Photoshop and a Wacom Intuos4 tablet. The image you see here is much reduced from its original file size. 

An archival print at 32" x 32" is available for $292. Payment can be made using PayPal, and delivery is generally in one week. I'd love to hear from you if you're interested in owning a print.
