Wireman26 Back Home

Back home after the Newtown Arts Festival, Wireman26 is out of the bag and high-stepping across a field of knotty pine. He and his 59 brothers had a blast this weekend, dancing in the wind, which had the whole tent rollin' and tumblin' on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to my neighbors and guests, who saved the show, jumping to the rescue with ropes to belay the bucking tent, which was itchin' to make like a tumbleweed across the Festival grounds. My first adventures with the Wiremen!

What's Up Nance?

Long time no see!
Yah, well, that doesn't mean that there's been nothing to see. . .

The studio has been a happenin' place - work being produced and such - but more so in than it's shaping up into a real working space. I'm excited to announce that a contract has been signed, and work will commence in early September, to pipe heat into the studio. Getting up at 4:30 am and sitting in an unheated room on a cold winter morning will be a thing of the past. Goodbye frostbite!

So what are those weird plastic baggie-things hanging from the studio ceiling? Ah - a sneak preview of fun to come at The Newtown Arts Festival, September 15th and 16th to be held on the Fairfield Hills Campus. Come see the wild and crazy concoctions, feats of beauty, and surprising entertainments presented by our local art community. You'll find me in a back tent with my woodworking chisels, carving spruce burl, cherry chunks and lovely spalted maple. And, as a souvenir of the experience, these whimsical Wiremen will be available for purchase at a ridiculously affordable "Everymans Price".

So, welcome back to the bloggin' world - I hope to be sending out these missives on a weekly basis, Fridays mostly, figuring that we can all use a smile and a freely shared bit of happiness at the end of the workweek.

St Thomas the Apostle Bell Tower

My friend Jim, who originally hales from the northeast, and is now a dedicated Phoenician, attends this church  - St. Thomas the Apostle.
In a valley full of uninspiring makeshift places of worship, this is an exception. Home to beautiful art and designed to lift the spirit. When I visited the church, they were hosting a full-sized replica of the "Pieta". - NB

This painting is 5" x 7", acrylic on matboard, housed in an 8" x 10" cream-colored mat. The work is signed and dated on the back and bears the above prose, handwritten by the artist. It is up for auction through March 14th.

Path to the Creek

5" x 7" acrylic painting
housed in an 8" x 10" cream-colored mat

"Jewel of the Creek" - indeed it is!
Where else would you find this cool green shade and the music of running water in the desert? Love this place.

This is a painting from a recent visit to Cave Creek Arizona.

This painting will be up for auction until February 25th.

Cave Creek Crossing

5" x 7" acrylic painting on matboard
housed in an 8" x 10" cream-colored mat

These planks cross Cave Creek at Jewel of the Creek, Spur Cross Ranch, in Cave Creek Arizona. This is a magical place in the desert, where water runs year-round. Cottonwoods and willows grow here because of, and in spite of, the water.

This painting is up for auction until February 23rd.
