Woven Reed Seat

Learning new skills
and tackling useful projects
are antidotes
for the feeling of helplessness.

A loose knob,
a squeaky hinge,
a dust-clogged bathroom fan,
a dirty window
becomes sources
of accomplished contentment
when we finally
take time to fix, repair or clean them.

This little chair was found abandoned at the curb. Its old reed seat was broken, though the frame was still sturdy, so I brought it home and cleaned it up. With caning materials ordered through eBay and instructional videos on YouTube, I enjoyed several peaceful hours immersed in weaving a new seat. Though it looks delicate, the little chair is quite sturdy, and has earned it's role as my favorite desk chair.
